"For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret. . . Your eyes have seen my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.."

The Story of the Delivery
The day of my last exam before spring break (Friday March 8, 2002), Aimee went to her doctor with my mom for her weekly checkup. She was informed that her cervix was dilated 3 cm and 80% effaced. Her doctor expected her to go into labor at any moment in the next week (my Spring break!). In the days that followed, we walked and stayed busy to promote dilation and hopefully, delivery. Nothing happened as far as WE could tell. At her next doctor's appointment on Wednesday March 13, we learned that Aimee was now 5-6 cm dilated and 100% effaced. Our doctor decided to induce labor seeing that she would probably progress to 10 cm without feeling much, then leaving me to deliver. Technically, there were no possible induction appointments for the next couple of days. However, understanding our situation, we were advised to simply go to the hospital (we won't be turned away) and see the the doctor on call for our physicians group (Dr. Knapp). She went in at 8 AM Thursday March 14, 2002 and was examined by Dr. Knapp, who subsequently broke her water. Aimee was 100% effaced and 6-7cm dilated. Mind you, most women at this point are in full labor, Aimee still felt nothing. So, pitocin was administered and routine contractions began. Aimee finally felt her contractions. She went into labor at 12:15 PM and delivered at 2:14PM. Only a half hour was spent "pushing." At no time did Aimee scream or get angry. Aimee was calm and in control with no drugs throughout the entire delivery. Robin DeWitt (Aimee's mom) and Amy Johnson (a friend and fellow medical student) assisted in coaching and support. Twila Paris' lullabye CD was playing in the background and the lights were low and the mood was serene. It was a beautiful setting. Our doctor, a Christian, told us to start the CD back up again after it stopped. Alexa popped out at 2:14 PM, March 14 and scored an 8,9 on the APGAR score. Her blood sugar was a little low so she was brought to the nursery for some quick feeding. Once her blood sugar was established she was brought back to us. We were released from the hospital 2 days later on Saturday to begin our lives with our daughter. Aimee is breast feeding and made it through the frustrating early days with patience and perseverance. We praise the Lord for his support, timing, and strength.
